Public and Cultural Diplomacy
Within the framework of foreign policy, culture, and cultural diplomacy has acquired the position of a strategic political determinant. The social scientists of the world have recognized a strong link between tourism, peace, and diplomacy. Through cultural diplomacy, foreigners are invited into a host country, where they get a chance to interact with the local community, learns their traditions and cultures, thus increasing respect for the host country.
This in turn leads to the building of cordial relations between the two countries. The goal of cultural diplomacy is to use culture and dialogue as a tool for building positive and constructive interactions between the states. Through cultural diplomacy, the public has access to different cultures. One major activity for this purpose where the communities interact with each other is tourism. In the globalized world of today, tourism has emerged as a vehicle of global understanding and ensuring peace. In 2006, UNESCO announced tourism as a driver of cross-cultural understanding. In 1988, the first World Conference declared tourism to be a vital force for peace, and many regards it as an industry of peace. How tourism and cultural diplomacy can bring peace and stability.
